Continuing through the rift valley you can visit its famous chain lakes, each one different in character but all teeming with water birds, before climbing up through the southeastern highlands to the Bale Mountains National Park. Here you will marvel at the spectacular vegetation of the alpine moorland and forests, home of many endemic birds and mammals. Eventually, you will return to the rift valley to explore Wondoguenet Forest, where hot springs bubble up through the lush vegetation, before reluctantly returning to Addis.

Day 01: ARRIVAL IN ADDIS ABABA

Day 02: ADDIS ABABA
After breakfast, drive to Mt. Entoto, which is situated at an altitude of 2,800m and see Yellow-Billed Kites, many Speckled Pigeons, Sacred, Blue-Winged and Egyptian Geese, Hooded and White-backed Vultures, and more. O/N in hotel

Day 03: ADDIS ABABA - DEBRE LIBANOS
You will be picked up from your hotel to drive to Debre Libanos for an overnight stay and to see birds such as but not limited to Ruppell’s cliff-chat, Black-faced Fire finch, White-throated Seedeater, Foxy Cisiticola, Speckle-fronted weaver, and more. O/N in hotel

Day 04: DEBRE LIBANOS - ALEM KETEMA – DEBRE BIREHAN
Drive from Debre Libanos to Alem Ketema and Jemma Valley to see many more species of birds from the western lowlands of Ethiopia penetrated far into the mountains and occur alongside many typically highland species and finally, travel to Debre Birhan for a two nights stay. O/N in hotel

Day 05: FULL DAY AROUND DEBRE BIREHAN
Today, you will have a chance to see birds of interest in the area that include some of the more widespread highland grassland specialties. You shall also descend the escarpment to Melka Jebdu, a reliable site for the endemic Yellow-Throated Seedeater. O/N in hotel

Day 06: DEBRE BIREHAN – AWASH
Drive from Debre Birehan to Awash looking down over the Great Rift Valley where Awash National Park is situated. En-route, you will see anything of interest. O/N in lodge

Day 07 & 08: IN AND AROUND AWASH NATIONAL PARK
Explore the wide-ranging species of birds available in and around Awash National Park--from Ostrich to the Yellow-bellied Eremomela. The number of species of birds in this park exceeds 400. O/N in hotel

Day 09: AWASH - LANGANO
On day 09, drive from Awash to Langano breaking your journey at Lake Koka to see birds such as Greater and Lesser Flamingoes in thousands number, Great White Egret and others. O/N in hotel

Day 10: FULL-DAY NEAR LANGANO
You can see Yellow-throated Sand grouse, Yellow-billed Storks, Pygmy Falcon, African Fish Eagles, Waterfowl, Pied Kingfisher, Grey-headed Gull, _ _ _etc in today’s activity. O/N in hotel

Day 11: FULL-DAY NEAR LANGANO

Day 12: LANGANO – BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
Today you shall leave the Rift Valley and climb steadily upwards through the southeastern highlands to Goba for a three nights stay. You shall break your journey at the park headquarters where you will see your first Bale birds and mammals. O/N in lodge

Day 13: FULL-DAY AT BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
Full day explore birds with special focus on the 14 species of birds that are endemic to the Bale Mountains. O/N in lodge

Day 14: FULL-DAY AT BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
Full day visit the park to see the endangered endemic Prince Ruspoli’s Turaco and other rare birds--by walking along a dry river bed and carefully checking the large fruiting figs, you should come across this stunning and charismatic creature. O/N in lodge

Day 15: BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK – NEGELLE
After breakfast, drive from Bale Mountains to Negelle to see the localized Shelley’s and White-Crowned Starlings, Shelley’s Rufous Sparrow and Speke’s Weaver. You will also have another chance to look for the sometimes elusive Prince Ruspoli’s Turaco should you need to. O/N in hotel

Day 16: NEGELLE – YABELLO – NEGELLE
Yabello is one of Ethiopia’s excellent birding destinations. The most common birds found at this place include Blue-headed Coucal, Hemprich’s and Crowned Hornbills, Bare-faced Go-away Bird and Red-billed Oxpecker. You will have also a chance to see the other star attractions of the area. O/N in hotel

Day 17: NEGELLE – LANGANO
Drive from Negelle to Langano. O/N in hotel

Day 18: LANGANO – HAWASSA
After some final birding in the Yabello area, you will travel north to the western side of Lake Langano for an overnight stay, looking out for Woolly-Necked Stork and anything else of interest en-route. O/N Hotel/Lodge

Day 19: HAWASSA – ADDIS ABABA – INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT
Retrace to Addis. You will have time to break your journey at several good birding spots as you return. In the evening, transfer to the airport to catch your evening return flight to home.
